Pancake Hill Sustainable Woodlands CIC
Pancake Hill Sustainable Woodlands CIC is responsible for the sustainable management and restoration of woodland at Casthorpe Hills. A Community Interest Company, often known as a CIC, is a special type of company set up to benefit the community rather than private shareholders. This means the work of Pancake Hill Sustainable Woodlands CIC is focused on delivering environmental and community benefit.
The project focuses on improving biodiversity, supporting woodland health, and helping to build long-term environmental resilience within this important local green space.
The woodland is managed carefully and responsibly through practical conservation work such as selective felling, coppicing, replanting, and habitat creation. These activities help to encourage new growth, improve the structure of the woodland, support native species, and create better habitats for birds, insects, mammals, and other wildlife.
Timber and other materials arising from the management of the woodland are put to good use wherever possible. This includes processing wood into firewood, charcoal, stakes, fencing materials, and other primary forestry products. This approach helps to reduce waste and ensures that natural resources from the woodland are used sustainably.
